The Giants and Eagles have agreed on a four-player deal that will send 28-year-old southpaw Norihito Kaneto to Rakuten, a source said Monday.
The teams are expected to announce the trade in the coming days.
Kaneto is 11-12 in his career with a 4.24 ERA, but did not pitch for the first team in 2012. In exchange for Kaneto and 25-year-old minor league utility infielder Hiroki Nakazawa, the Giants will get left-handed-hitting outfielder Fuminori Yokogawa and minor league catcher Suguru Ino.
Nakazawa is a light hitter who has yet to play in a first-team game. Yokogawa is a career .213 hitter with the big club but has hit for moderate power with solid on-base percentages in the minors. Ino has played in 43 first-team games.
"Getting a left-handed power hitter and a reserve catcher is the point," Giants manager Tatsunori Hara said. "I think this is a balanced deal for both teams."
