The new release by AKB48 has become the sixth consecutive million-selling CD for the Japanese all-girl pop idol group, breaking the previous record of five for female artists set by Pink Lady for the first time in 33 years. The group's 25th single ''Give Me Five!'' was released last Wednesday and has registered sales of 1.287 million copies, music information company Oricon Inc. said Monday.
For male artists, the rock group B'z has recorded 13 consecutive million-selling CDs, while the pop band Mr. Children has had eight.
