It may not sound like the most romantic of ingredients, but a company here is using boiled fish paste to create heart-shaped "kamaboko" for Valentine's Day on Feb. 14.
Abekamabokoten, which usually makes "sasa-kamaboko," or bamboo leaf-shaped fish paste, has put cream cheese in its latest products, called "Pure Heart."
A set of eight pieces sells for 1,200 yen (about $15), including tax.
The company is accepting orders by telephone or on its online shopping site (http://www.rakuten.co.jp/abekama/). The number of heart-shaped kamaboko is limited, so Abekamabokoten is asking customers to make pre-orders.
